GAMIAN-Europe launches workplace suicide prevention toolkit on WSPD

On World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10), PAREA joins the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in reaffirming that suicide is preventable, and that changing the narrative can save lives.

Each year, more than 700,000 people globally, and 47,000 across the EU, die by suicide—most of them of working age. The social, emotional, and economic impacts ripple across families, workplaces, and communities.

To mark the day, GAMIAN-Europe, a valued PAREA member, launched two important resources: the Workplace Suicide Prevention Toolkit and a companion Infographic. These tools help organisations across Europe address the growing link between workplace stress and suicidality. They offer practical, evidence-based strategies for prevention, including ready-to-use templates, policy guidance, and powerful reflections from people with lived experience.

This year’s WSPD theme, “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”, calls for reducing stigma, fostering open dialogue, and embedding prevention in every aspect of life, including the workplace.

At PAREA, we believe building psychologically safe environments is a shared responsibility and a critical step toward saving lives.
