PAREA at the 12th European Academy of Neurology Congress in Geneva

We are delighted to have been invited to the 12th European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Congress, currently taking place in Geneva, Switzerland. PAREA's Founder, Tadeusz, and Project Officer, Francisca, are representing PAREA with a booth in the Neurohood exhibition area. This marks our second time exhibiting at the EAN Congress, following last year's successful participation in Helsinki.

Throughout the congress, we have enjoyed engaging with neurologists, researchers, and healthcare professionals about the therapeutic potential of psychedelics in neurology. We are also showcasing the PsyPal clinical trial, which is investigating psilocybin therapy for psychological and existential distress in people living with life-limiting illnesses. The study is currently recruiting patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis (MS), and atypical Parkinsonism or advanced Parkinson's disease (PD) across sites in Portugal, Denmark, Czechia, and the Netherlands. Visit the PsyPal website to learn more.

While most psychedelic research and clinical applications have focused on psychiatric conditions, growing interest is emerging in neurology. Current studies are exploring psychedelic therapy as an adjunctive treatment for mood symptoms and existential distress in neurological and neurodegenerative conditions, including Parkinson's disease. There is also research on the potential role of psychedelics for the management of cluster headaches, migraines and other pain conditions, and for rehabilitation following stroke or traumatic brain injury, although evidence in this area remains limited.

Engaging directly with healthcare professionals is central to PAREA's mission. Raising awareness and disseminating the latest scientific evidence are essential steps towards ensuring that, if proven safe and effective, psychedelic therapies can become accessible to the patients who may benefit from them.
