PAREA co-signs joint call to safeguard EU funding for health and civil society
PAREA is a co-signatory of a joint call by 38 health and patient organisations urging EU Member States to safeguard funding for health and civil society in Europe.
Civil society plays a central role in EU health policy, yet recent years have shown how vulnerable it becomes when sustainable support is withdrawn.
Ahead of the upcoming EU4Health Steering Group and European Council meetings (18–19 December), the EU4Health Civil Society Alliance calls on Member States to:
Reinstate operating grants in the 2026 EU4Health Work Programme
Secure a strong, ring-fenced health budget in the next Multiannual Financial Framework (2028–2034)
Without stable funding, organisations working directly with patients, communities and vulnerable groups risk reducing activities or closing altogether.
EU4Health has demonstrated its value, as has civil society engagement. Political commitment is now needed to ensure continuity and impact. A healthier and more equitable Europe depends on safeguarding the actors delivering this work on the ground.
